| Correai
Moore is unique because he
did not grow up dancing or having direct
exposure to formal dance growing up. He grew up in
Kinston, NC and played sports in high school, but never effectively
danced until he went to a prom of his high school girlfriend.
Later, at East Carolina University, he improved
his ability to move his feet but still didn't
learn how to do any formal dancing. One night one of his college
roommates suggested they try the salsa night at a local hotel.
Upon arrival was intrigued because it looked smooth and natural
but he couldn't
pick it up by watching it. Eventually the local patrons took
pity on him and taught him a few moves, and he never looked
back. He quickly began to learn alongside Heidi and Procopio
Serrano, and met and danced with current Mambo Dinamico Pro
Team member Jamila.
Correai continued to dance with Heidi and
Procopio, and during a business trip to Morrisville he became
aware of Betto’s dance company. He would drive three
hours round trip from Greenville to Morrisville to take lessons,
but he didn’t
grow because he could never dance.
In fall of 2007
he moved to Durham to work for UNC-Chapel Hill, and
became fully immersed in the salsa scene. He quickly became
a familiar face which earned an invite to Mambo Sabroso, the
student team which progressed to the semi-pro team.
Correai is known for his “slapstick”
style of social dancing in social salsa dancing, which always
brings smiles to a partner’s face. He is also a member
of the UNC-Chapel Hill Ballroom Team, which competes regularly
throughout the school year. He is dedicated to improving his
technique as well as serving as an ambassador for social partner
dancing, especially in rural areas from which he came. |
